Ethiopique Media Access Project (EMAP) is an initiative dedicated to bridging the information gap within the Amharic-speaking community in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area. Ethiopique LLC, the only local news source providing essential local news and information in Amharic, serves over 75,000 community members. However, despite our reach and impact, we face significant financial challenges that hinder our ability to grow and fully serve this vibrant community.
Why Ethiopique Matters
Access to reliable news and information is a cornerstone of an informed and empowered community. For many in the DMV's over 75,000-strong Amharic-speaking population, language barriers often limit their access to mainstream news outlets. Ethiopique addresses this gap by offering news coverage, community updates, and critical information in their native language, ensuring they remain informed, engaged, and empowered.
Our Vision
Ethiopique aims to enhance and expand our offerings by:
Relaunching Muchal: ( Link ) Muchal, our beloved animated news anchor, brought joy and clarity to many viewers. Unfortunately, financial constraints forced us to suspend its animation. With your support, we can bring Muchal back, ensuring our news remains accessible and engaging for all ages. Expanding Coverage: We plan to increase our reporting on critical issues affecting the community, such as immigration, housing, and local politics, ensuring that no story goes untold. Enhancing Digital Access: By improving our digital infrastructure, we can reach more people, including those who rely on mobile devices to access the internet. This will also allow us to provide more interactive and multimedia content. Community Engagement: We aim to host community events and workshops that not only inform but also empower the community to become active participants in the democratic process.
How You Can Help
Your generous contribution will directly support the operational costs of Ethiopique, including content creation, digital platform maintenance, and the relaunch of Muchal. Every dollar raised will go towards creating a sustainable and impactful media presence that the 75,000-strong Amharic-speaking community can rely on.
By supporting Ethiopique, you are not just funding a media project—you are investing in the future of an entire community.
Thank you for your support.
